Santa Maria de Palautordera is a municipality located in the eastern part of Vallès Oriental, a beautiful town situated in the valley of the Tordera River, with an area of approximately 17 square kilometers and an average altitude of 190.90 meters above sea level. Thanks to the splendid views of the Montseny Massif, it has become a stopping point along the “Montseny Path,” at the gateway to the Montseny Natural Park, a protected area declared a Biosphere Reserve (World Network of Biosphere Reserves under the MAB programme) by UNESCO in 1978. Palautordera comes from the Latin palatium and tordaria, meaning ‘palace in the valley of the Tordera River’; the demonym for its inhabitants is "palauenc/a." Located on the sunny side of the massif, it is a place of great scenic beauty but also of great richness in terms of rural and urban heritage, thanks to the abundance of water and the variety of forests that can be found.
Palautordera or Palau, as it is also called, is very well connected for access from anywhere in Catalonia. Located just 50 minutes from Barcelona, it is connected to the rest of the region by the BV-5301 road, which runs through the town and links the Granollers to Girona road (C-35) with the Osona region after climbing through Montseny.
